The Veiled Virgin for Trombone and Percussions (2019/20)
Updated: May 4, 2022
"The marble sculpture is from the hand of Italian sculptor Giovanni in the 19th century, depicting a bust of the Virgin Mary wearing a veil. The work was carved in Rome in the 1850s until it was sent to Newfoundland, Canada in 1856.
There is very little information about the work, a bishop named John Thomas Mullock once recorded it in his diary, "'Received safely from Rome, a beautiful statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary in marble, by Strazza. The face is veiled, and the figure and features are all seen. It is a perfect gem of art."
Performance:
Aimeric Van Iseghem (Trombone)
Paul Ebert (Percussion)
Haru Ueda (Percussion)
